The genus Rhamnus belongs to the Rhamnaceae family, which contains approximately 137 species, traditionally used as folk medicine in East Asia, North and South America, subtropical regions of Africa. is treat diseases such cancer, wound, jaundice, hepatitis, gonorrhea, laxative, hypertension, malaria, stomach ache, snake bite diarrhea. Anthraquinones flavonoids are most cited compounds from polyphenols were abundant with tremendous antioxidant, wound healing antiinflammatory activities. Pharmacological activity evaluation extracts isolated revealed anti-inflammatory, antimalarial, antibacterial, anti-mutagenic, anti-genotoxic, hepatoprotective, anticancer, anti-proliferative activity. afforded drug leads 6-methoxysorigenin (12) prinoidin (23) anti-tyrosinase cytotoxicity, respectively, well antioxidant Kaempferol-3-O-β-rhamninoside (31) rhamnetin-3-O-β-isorhamninoside (37) isotorachrysone (55). present review endeavors provide a comprehensive up date compilation documented traditional medicinal uses, phytochemicals pharmacological activities provided valuable information support its uses an alternative for future healthcare practice.
